Our Story – Providing Exceptional Early Childhood Education in Monmouth
Our Philosophy
We believe that early childhood education lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Our curriculum is based on the Foundation Phase Framework, which encourages development through play and exploration. We create a space where children feel supported, valued, and excited to learn. At The Learning Tree, every child’s needs are met with care and dedication.
Who We Are
The Learning Tree was founded by Chris Baker in 2019, and our Monmouth location was established in 2025. After taking over a local nursery that was set to close, Chris wanted to ensure the community had access to high-quality early childhood care. The Learning Tree was born out of a desire to offer children a safe, stimulating environment where they could grow and develop. Today, we proudly serve families in Monmouth, with a focus on providing the best early learning experiences for children from 3 months to 5 years.
Our Monmouth Nursery
Our Monmouth location is a beautiful nursery designed with children's needs in mind. We offer spacious, age-appropriate rooms that promote creative learning and growth. The design of our nursery ensures that each child has access to a secure, stimulating environment that promotes physical, emotional, and social development.

Rooms and Facilities
Hedgehogs/Draenogod (0-2 Years)
Our youngest learners experience a calm, nurturing environment in the Hedgehogs room. With sensory play, soft furnishings, and natural toys, infants enjoy a gentle introduction to the world of learning.
Rabbits/Cwningod (2-3 Years)
The Rabbits room is designed to stimulate curiosity and support early development. Children enjoy a variety of activities, including messy play and interactive learning, while building confidence and social skills.
Foxes/Llwynogod (3-5 Years)
The Foxes room is designed to prepare children for the next step in their education. Activities include role play, small-world play, and early literacy and numeracy experiences. The Foxes room fosters independence, creativity, and exploration in a structured yet playful environment.
Hedgehogs/Draenogod (3 months - 12 months)
Designed specifically for infants, our two baby rooms provide a serene and neutrally decorated environment, fostering a calm space for our littlest learners. Equipped with toys such as building blocks and wooden shapes, as well as sensory stimulation through hanging decorations, they offer a gentle and nurturing introduction to the world of learning and exploration.
Our Hedgehogs/Draenogod rooms seamlessly combine quiet corners and soft furnishings with stimulating play areas, encouraging collaborative play, messy exploration, and the creation of individual games with the provided toys.
Owls/Tylluanod (12 - 24 months)
Our vibrant Owls/Tylluanod room supports our little learners as they grow and develop through a rich array of age-appropriate equipment, toys, and materials. The room's layout encourages exploration, allowing children to move freely between activities and engage in learning across various sections such as the reading nook, and messy play area.
This bright and stimulating environment promotes creativity, fostering both imaginative play and physical development. In alignment with our other rooms, a quiet corner is available for reading, supporting language development in both English and Welsh. This holistic approach ensures a well-rounded and enriching experience for our toddlers.
Badgers/Moch Daear (24 - 36 months)
In our dynamic and engaging Badger Room/Moch Daear, creativity flourishes, fostering both imaginative play and physical development. Consistent with our other spaces, there's a dedicated quiet corner for reading, supporting language development in both English and Welsh. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded and enriching experience for our toddlers, blending play and learning harmoniously.
Nurturing toddlers' growth and exploration, our lively Badger Room offers an array of age-appropriate equipment, toys, and materials. We encourage children to move seamlessly between activities, exploring different sections such as the reading nook and our messy play area.
Foxes/Llwynogod (3-5 Years)
Our eldest children have access to a diverse range of activities within our Foxes/Llwynogod Room, including role-playing, small-world play and messy play, as well as a designated book corner with a wide selection of age-appropriate books. They are motivated to discover the world in ways that relate to them, receiving guidance from our staff to build their confidence and develop a solid understanding of interacting with others and building friendships.
Merging Teaching and Childcare
We offer a variety of programmes, including care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We also provide flexible before and after school care, with drop off and pick up services to help support families further.
At our The Learning Tree Explorers After School Club, we prioritise the well-being and development of children aged 5 to 12 years, by providing them with the opportunity to learn and socialise in a welcoming and supportive environment. Our highly qualified and experienced staff are dedicated to providing exceptional care for your child.
Diversity is at the core of our programme, offering a range of activities to cater to every child's interests. From energising sports sessions, exploring artistic expression through music and drama, stimulating creativity through arts and crafts, connecting with nature and embarking on trips to local attractions – we have something for everyone to enjoy.
We believe that it’s never too early to start learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to learn and grow as soon as they start at our setting. By developing our programmes with curriculum experts and childcare specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes early education a success and have created a learning programme that allows our children to enter school seamlessly and thrive throughout.
